Benetton

Process optimization and total control over the handling of the orders in transit in Romania and related costs

Benrom srl is the operating company controlled by the Benetton Group in Romania, established in 2005 to improve the control of the processing flow by the external laboratories in the country. There are 2 major logistics poles (Sibiu and Iasi), respectively for the processing of wool and cotton, and about 60 laboratories or outside contractors distributed throughout the territory, who carry out steps or cycles of production. This allows the company to manage a total volume of 40 million clothing items a year, ensuring the Benetton Group direct control on the production and handling of orders.

THE NEEDS

  • Building an integrated system capable of handling the two Romanian sites' orders in real-time: all that, maintaining control over the operational flow, as well as over the semi-processed and finished products.
  • Organize and analyze the flow of incoming data from Italy to Romania, allowing integration between Benind, the industrial party, and Benrom Ltd., its subsidiary.

THE SOLUTION

Benrom was flanked by Artinfo, a subsidiary of Arti Informatiche, in the implementation of the management system Ideal 2005. The initial phase of work saw the centralization of the server platform at the server farms in Italy, which allowed the project to be realized in just six months.

Benrom is now able to:

  • maintain control and traceability of the entire production flow orders in Romania
  • monitor all movements of loading and unloading and related processing costs, allowing the staff to focus on process optimization and non-compliance inspections.

In the second phase, a reporting tool was introduced with the goal of making the company independent as for the production of directional reports relating to the orders in progress.

Using process schedulers to ensure immediate reporting in the case studies defined as critical by the company, the automation of the controls was finally optimized.

THE BENEFITS

The use of Ideale 2005, with the assistance of Art Info, has given Benrom Ltd

  • total control over the handling of the orders in transit in Romania and related costs

The process optimization has increased the company's competitivity, mainly because of the ability to produce an ever-increasing number of manufactured items.
