Electronic Data Interchange

The reusability of information creates efficiency and reduces errors depending on the re-keying of information.

The use of a standard for communication between different information systems is the basis of a proper exchange of documents aimed to the automation of business processes.

Automating the transactions of information between parties who have established business activities is possible thanks to the alignment with well-defined performance standards.

Important areas of application of the EDI technology are the RETAIL area of ​​logistics and LRO (Large Retailers Organization).  The need to interchange data between different systems arises from the need to get correct information quickly.  Achieving this, requires to standardize the procedures with precise standards of communication.

There are several variations of these standards:

  • UNEDIFACT  , or United Nations Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport, is an international standard prevailing outside North America;
  • X12, mainly used in intercom systems in the U.S.;
  • EURITMO, standard designed for communication through the channels of INTESA, a company of the IBM group;
  • ODETTE, mainly used in the automotive industry at a European level;
  • METEL, mainly used in the production and distribution of electrical and electronic equipment.

In addition to the interchange of information in EDI format, BizLink can handle complex import and export "Workflows" in XML format.
