PAAS - Platform as a Service

Consists in using a software platform in remote, often through a Web or terminal services access

An innovative way to use one or more virtual machines, of the server type, completely and exclusively available to the customer.  In essence, the customer does no more purchase any software licenses for operating systems and system applications, but simply the right to use virtual machines remotely, by the supplier's systems, for a period of time depending on the needs.

This type of solutions has obtained the consent and growing interest from structures that have a strong geographic distribution and are particularly characterized by a need for "fault-tolerance" which is very high.

It is, in fact, up to the "Service Provider" to guarantee operation, backup and performance required by the type of contract.

This mode of use of the system allows the company several advantages:

  • releases the company from high "maintenance" costs
  • avoids continuous garrison of the information system by the IT Manager
  • zeroes the management costs to upgrade and update both application and system
  • makes the number of machines required flexible in function of the working period
  • develops an access also on a geographic level to the system without expensive infrastructure facilities
  • ensures protection against the ongoing costs to update the hardware.
